Dewat Uzies and Uzi Carbines

They are about 100 pounds in England, MP-5's are 400 pounds or so the last time I was there. I don't understand why some mil- surp store in Canada doesn't import them, they would sell like hot cakes. Kearns and Mcmurchy never seemed to have a problem selling their dewats.

Kearns and Mcmurchy were awesome but the eventually went out of bussiness as deact owning became more scrutinised. T

The Kearns and Mcmurchy story is a tragic one. Customs in Que apparently ended up confiscating a large amount of his deacts before they reached Canada. It was also said that one customs agent messed with a few of the guns so that importation into canada would be more difficult?

K+m got alot of stuff in from Europe but eventually they were no longer allowed to do so. Then Peter Kearn's got targeted by the feds and it was game over. They raided his home one night and arrested him and his wife.

His case was in the courts for years, and cost Kearns a lot.

Peter Kearns took his own life just last year or so.

You used to be able to import them - not sure anymore, but either way they have to be rendered un"fix"able - select fire guns cannot #### and click.

I dont own guns I cant shoot - wall hangers just dont do my crank (plus some assbandit will break in and steal it off your wall if you display it [which is the only reason I see for DEWAT's] ).

I guess its a personal taste thing. I dont have prohib and love the old guns like the bren and the sten its the only way to own them. Some times its just enjoyable to have an old war trophy that you can keep in your collection that you dont have to worry about legally that is, permits and the like.

Kind of like collecting WW2 kit I guess, sort of a waste but interesting to those who like the history.

I guess now that the prohib shooting ban can came into effect in the spring alot of people will be owning things that you cant shoot.

Ah life in Canada.

Anyone know how the fight is goin on in the UK? Did you guys hear they are banning deacts in the UK now as well. Once they banned guns in the UK they only way poeple could own certain types was by deactivating them.

Now they are taking them away as well. All the UK deact sites are talking about it.

In a way, P Kearns did himself in for being too high profile & confrontational. The best way to be left alone sometimes is to stay humble & under the feds radar. Look what happened to Marstar. They won their court case but it cost them both financially & a hugh amount of grief.

Don't remember the exact details. Some years ago, Marstar was raided by the OPP gun police in a very heavy handed manner. Their office was trashed during the police search. The owner & wife were arrested & charged with all kind of BS like illegal selling of auto weapons/parts, having a loaded handgun in the bedroom etc. The case went to court & the good judge threw most of the charges out saved only one or two minor ones. No jail sentence was handed down & the crown was sent on its way with tail between its legs.

Marstar used to have a link on its web site telling all about the court case but it was since removed.

I remember that happening to marstar. I think that they had an article in canadian access or gun runner. I am sure that I have that somewhere. One thing that stands out was that the trained swat team with the mp5's were holding them at gun point with trigger fingers on the trigger, not the hand gaurd.

In the Marstar case, the raid was completely "over the top", with a helicopter, SWAT team, etc. The bulk of the case was eventually thrown out because too much time had elapsed between the when the charges were laid, and the trial date. This constituted a viloation of the Charter rights of the accused.

My personal opinion is that the Crown deliberately "ran out the clock," to ensure that the case would never see trial. Probably saved them a lot of embarrassment.

Where, exactly?

They've never been that cheap, IIRC. The cheapest I ever remember deac Uzis going for is around £250.

Anyway, the Violent Crime Reduction Bill includes a prohibition on the import, manufacture or sale of "realistic imitation firearms" and according to the Home Office this will cover deacs (I think they're wrong, but I'd have to go to court to prove it), so the deac market is basically dead now in this country. Or it will be shortly at any rate.

You might find some collector anxious to sell off his collection and export it, that would still be legal. But Canadian Customs I suspect is the real problem.

So let me great this strait - You can buy a deact 120mm as long as its attached to a Cheiftan tank but a 9mm Uzi is a no-no?

Actually you can own the 120mm live with no paperwork in Canada, attached to the Cheiftain or not...

Oh, what category does a live 120mm gun fall into? No paperwork at all? I take it the registry doesn't do "longer-than-long-guns"?

And if you can own the gun, can you own the ammo? Non-ex I presume.
