I’m trying to decide which scope to put on my .22LR Lithgow LA101 between the 4-16x42 diamondback hp and the 4-16x44 diamondback tactical FFP. My understanding is the HP had capped turrets, parallax down to 30m, and second focal plane reticle. The tactical has exposed turrets, parallax down to 20m, and first focal plane reticle.

Other than these differences, I’m wondering about glass quality, build quality, and overall performance. What would you guys recommend? It’ll be mostly a range gun up to 100m, but will probably come squirrel and rabbit hunting from time to time as well. Any and all opinions, thoughts, recommendations and insight appreciated.

I can’t comment on the HP as I have never used one, but I have had a diamondback tactical 4-16x44 FFP in MOA on a R700 223 AAC SD for around 3 - 4 years now and for the money it is a solid scope. It replaced a much higher end scope that died.

The glass is very good for the money, not excellent but probably superior to a lot of scopes in this price range.

It has tracked perfectly and always returns to zero. I use the elevation turret a lot and the reticle for windage. Longest shots have been out to 600m with no issues unless the sun is low and forward of your position.

The EBR2 reticle works very well for ranging and Kentucky windage type shots if you understand how it works.

The only complaint is that the turrets feel a but mushy, and I find the eye relief a Little fussy, but you get what you pay for.

There are quite a number of good reviews on youtube as well as some good comparisons to other scopes.

I am looking for another budget FFP scope for a different rifle and have done quite a but of research trying to decide whether to buy something else or stick with the DB tactical, but for the money, I have not been able to find one with as good reviews. I am thinking of stepping up a few hundred dollars in price to perhaps an ARKEN SH4 but keep coming back to the DB Tactical.

Hope this helps.
