So I disassembled and top 3 coils of mainspring broken off. Ordered new OEM from DL. Ground remaining spring flat where fractured and replaced in 54, shoots 8.5gr @880fps. Kinda forgot that I made a real nice spring compressor about ten years ago, now I think I ll tune a D34 with a JM kit.

Heres a few numbers. Using Exact 177 8.5gr with the shorter old spring, average speed was clocked at 876fps. After new spring was installed the numbers using same 8.5gr ammo was an average of 981fps, so we picked up a little over 100fps. I also clocked some HN Cuda, 10.65 gr, they averaged, 963fps, pretty good for a heavy. I also shot one 7gr Hobby, but it was to light for this unit judging by the report, nevertheless it zipped over the crony doing 1179fps, no averages, I won't shoot anythjng that light again in a 54. For those who may not know the 54 's barrel and action scope everything metal basically slide backward when the rifle is fired, this pretty much neutralizes recoil alowwing you to keep a pretty clear sight picture, pretty neat.
