Did Combloc countries ever make sniper grade 7.62x54R ammo?

A long time ago (over 15 years) I purchased a can of 7.62x54R ammo from a now out of business vendor in Calgary (I believe it was called the soldier shop) who told me at the time the ammo was produced in Russia for sniper rifles, specifically the druganov.

Anyone know if this ammo was actually ever produced and if so are there any specific head stamp markings for it?

I tossed the can when I opened it years ago and did not take any pictures of it.

The Ammo is in waxed paper wrapping of 20 rounds per package with no stripper clips.

Any info is appreciated.

No stripper clip usually means for a MG as the Soviets reused links in the field. I am sure they had match grade but not likely much. Soviets didn't employ snipers in the NATO way. Snipers in the Soviet army were more like designated Marksmen in the US Army. Some of the best did work as scout snipers in their Spendanz but mostly not.
 
It is found in brown paper wrappers with Snaperskya stamped in red on them. I would have to go down and look but if I recall it would have a 7N1 head stamp.
 
Russian match grade military issue 7.62x54 is designated 7N1 and 7N14, with the latter replacing the former in the late '90s.

I'm not sure however if any of their satellite countries produced their own match ammo in that caliber, or if they all got it from the Soviets?

There was some different versions of "heavy ball" that I think were used for that purpose but I'm not certain of that.

Yugoslavia also made a Sniper Grade 7.62x54R round. It's often called M30 by collectors/shooters state side. It is 196gr FMJBT ammo. Good stuff, too bad you can't find it here.

Basically Privi still makes it, it's called Privi match I believe, however the only difference is that the new Privi is non corrosive, and a lot more expensive.

Edit: correction my mind was thinking 8mm Mauser, the M30 is the 54r. I fixed that for ya guys.

From memory, M75 is for the M76 rifle in 7.92x57
 
The Russians did tend to develop the gun and the ammunition to work together when being used for precision work. Hard to believe, but it's one of the reasons the Dragunov got such poor accuracy reviews in the '80's- it isn't designed to be fed machine gun heavy ball. I saw a paper on the specialized ammo, it's actually pretty complex. Pretty much everything from case hardness and design to pressure curve to bullet design was set up for the Dragunov. Not that we'll ever get to confirm that 'cause you know it's an evil AK variant. :rolleyes::rolleyes::jerkit:
