Did I do good ?

I never thought I'd own an SKS but now I do.
I know nothing about military stuff period but always wanted one just couldn't justify spending money on one.
I picked this up for a box of 35Rem shells and cleaning a Cooey 600.
Its a 1950 Tula. The only 2 serial numbers not matching are the mag and stock everything else the same.
I'll be on the look out for an original sling and cleaning kit that goes in the stock.
Did I get a good deal ?

I say that you got a good deal, but that is without knowing what was involved in the cost of that box of cartridges and the cleaning of the old Cooey.
SKS are fun to own, shoot, collect and work on because of how low costing everything about them is and yet they are very well made.
The 1950 SKS is more interesting to me because of it usually being a bit different than later years: usually not a chrome lined barrel and usually a spring loaded firing pin.
Your stock looks like it was sanded bare to natural wood?

Yes rhe stock was sanded to bare wood and the top forend still has original finish. The box of 35Rem was given to me to start with so no cost there and it took me all of 30 mins to give the Cooey 600 a good cleaning and its shooting just as its suppose to.
Yes Im very happy I finally own an SKS !

the sks sling at tradex is aftermarket I'd skip it.

Great rifle now your hooked on milsurps. Tool kit may be in te butt. A sling is easily had for about $25.00. Ammo pouch around $5.00.A fun to shoot rifle value looks about $400.00 plus. As stated TRADEX has many bits and pieces.
