Did my first IDPA shoot today.

Naturally, I did pretty bad. Got 4 procedurals in the first course of fire, but only 1 in the second. Got DQ'd in the final course when my tshirt got caught up in my holster.

Pretty much as expected, a learning experience. There's a lot to remember! I don't even know what I shot. I'm sure it was pretty low (or high?). I'm not even worrying about scoring yet.

I need to change up some gear and then practise.
 
You have IDPA shoots on a Weds? Our practices are on Weds and shoots are on the weekend.
Glad you joined the sport! I assume you shot as an Unclassified?
Before you start a stage, make sure your shirt is tucked in tight so you won't fumble the draw. Also, put a set of car keys, mag or your phone in the jacket pocket on your draw side. Makes it way easier to sweep your jacket away during the draw.

It's at Target Sports Canada and that's IDPA night. Just the local club,

I shot Unclassified, SSP. It's only the first time other than my holster qualification, so I'm still scoping out the clothes and belts I need. One of the SOs took me back for some advice after we were done so it was a net win as far as I'm concerned. I have "realistic" expectations for myself. I don't think Jerry Michelik needs to worry.
 
What gun? What holster and what belt?
Practice dry runs at home. Drawing, aiming while moving, acquiring front sight picture, reloading. Speed will come. Get the fundamentals right first. Nobody cares how good you are, just how safe you are. IDPA guys ( and gals) are great at laughing at themselves and it's a good time. Our group shares guns, rigs and sandwiches! Love it!
 
Welcome to the sport. Not to worry about PE's. We learn the rule book 3 seconds at a time. Stick with it, keep it simple and just have fun. The scoring will come and you will improve...and if you don't you will still be having fun and I am sure you will eat a meal after every shoot. It is a game never forget that.

"SSP" is Stock Service Pistol. A Smith & Wesson M&P9 with the Bladetech holster and mag pouch that came with the range kit. I'm looking for a 1.5" nylon belt with either velcro fastener or a double d-ring or other infinitely adjustable buckle.

What is your belt size I may have what you want. The one I have shrunk rather badly as it now does not fit like it used to.:>)

I just joined this year myself...only been to two matches and one of them was the Algonquin Cup in Sundridge. Had a lot of fun, had good hits, time was slow but I was consciously "taking" my time to be as accurate as possible. Finished middle of the pack for my class/division. I am told the speed shall come when I am proficient with the fundamentals. Out of the 10 stages I did have 1 clean shoot, happy about that...one of the few things in life you like to hear "zero...zero...zero". LOL Welcome to IDPA from a fellow newbie.
 
Welcome to the sport. You've heard some good advice. Take your time, learn the fundamentals, enjoy yourself.
