Die Care and Maintenance

Good evening gents,

Just looking for suggestions on the best methods and products to properly maintain your dies for a lifetime of use. The last thing I want to do is have a set of dies for a month or two, then find them rusted out.

Get some RIG gun grease and lightly coat both the interior and exterior of your dies. It can be easily removed with either carburetor cleaner or Gun Scrubber along with an old toothbrush.

I spray 'em out with brakekleen, dry and spray with G96 Gun treatment, or similar, for storage.

if you do find surface rust on your dies. disassemble and throw in your tumbler for a day. they will look like new again.

after a bit of use I disassembly and run one of those soft twelve gauge cleaning brushes through the main body. then clean the expander ball with some carb cleaner, lightly oil and reaasembly. the same with the seater dies. I find a good build up of wax after loading a couple hundred cast rounds. I like the tumbler idea I am going to try that next time for sure
