Die leaves marks on ogive

Is this normal? Just started reloading 223 and my lee deluxe seating die leaves marks/a ring on the ogive of the bullet. (vmax)

I've tried a dozen different loads and I've yet to cook up something better than factory bulk FMJs so I'm starting to wonder

Seating dies usually leave a small circonferential mark on the bullet but should not leave an indent on the bullet's jacket. Driving the press too hard might cause a ring to occur on the bullet.

There is definitely an impression in the copper jacket. I can feel it with my fingernail

Are these Secant ogive bullets?

I get the same thing with my Redding competition seating die. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Nice vmax BTW.

I have an RCBS die that does the same thing. I've polished inside the seating stem, still does it.

My 30-30 dies do the same to leverution bullets. I've been wondering too...

It happens because the bullet is meeting significant resistance, which is typically more drastic if the case neck is undersized or if you are seating against a very compressed load.

That just means you have good neck tension on your brass. I doubt you will notice any degradation in performance.

i had the same issue with 30-30 leverevolution bullets. while not removing it completely, it makes it barely visible so try using some dry neck lube.
