Hey all,

Considering building an AR from scratch as a father-son project with the old man. Been eyeing the Diemaco stripped lowers, mostly out of patriotism and the "cool factor," but I'm curious if anyone has comments on the actual quality? Curious if there's anything better I should be considering.

Pretty much all lowers tick all of the boxes - the lower on an AR is an unstressed component, so as long as the holes are in the right places and the unit is square for alignment, and the mag well is properly sized, it's all good. The CC lower is a very good - if somewhat costly - lower receiver. You can get a good quality lower for much less, but if you're willing to pay $150 more for the name (and the folks making it) you won't find anything better.

Overpriced without any benefits. If you look around you can get a stripped AR15 lower for less than $100, and it will work just as well as the CC lower.

The one caveat to Colt Canada, and it's a good thing is QC, and specifications. Generally speaking, yes, most well known brands make products of good to great quality and have great QC. They will likely support your needs more than adequately.

The key differentiator is Colt Canada builds all of their products to the absolute most correct TDP (Technical Data Package). They will continue to be the most in-spec receivers because of that. Whether that ends up mattering to you or not is a different story, but they produce products of known quality, across large quantities and the engineering and support to assert that.

Basically keep in mind that products can both aesthetically and visually look to be very well made/finished. The difference is all of the things you can't see behind the scenes that ensure and guarantees their quality - Colt Canada has that.

Quality lowers are all equal, so your $300 CC isn't much different than an AeroPrecision costing half that. That said, there is a cachet to a Canadian made product. Get one of it makes you happy!

If you have the extra $’s and feel a need to buy Canadian then go for it. This lower is of good quality.

I choose CC, maybe if they see that there is a demand for their products they will give us more options to buy their products. I get a little tingle of patriotism every time I use my Colts =)

Both my personally built AR's are on Colt Canada lowers. Top notch, and I wouldn't ask for more, especially since one of my builds is a C8.

Okay, pulled the trigger on a stripped lower today. One thing I noticed is that the finish is grey, as opposed to black. Almost looks more like parkerization than anodization. Anyone have experience with this? Considering getting it cerakoated black to match the parts I have destined for it.

Oil it and it will turn black. Put it in a bath of CLP. I'm talking like literally submerge it in CLP for a few days. It's looks grey because it's been degreased.

Sweet rig. Was this built on a stripped lower? Finish looks way darker than the one I bought today. Just trying to figure that part out right now.

Cheers, and yes, built on a stripped lower. Once I got it, I realized what you've noticed, that it's dry and hell. Take CLP and pour it on. It'll soak in and give it another coat (think like oiling dry wood).

It'll darken up with oil.
