Hi there -

I'm looking to purchase a 308 win F-Class rifle on the savage F-Class platform.
That being said - i can't find any 308 Win F/TR models available anywhere.

2 Questions:
1) Anyone know where one might be new?
- I've found two or more F-Class BR's in 308 win.
2) i'm 99 % sure i'll get the F-Class BR in 308 win - but - how similar are these two rifles interms of action and barrel etc? Can i 100% get a F/TR stock - (which someone on gunnutz has for sale) and throw in the 308 win F-Class BR? Or - is it better to look at just getting a Choate stock?
Thoughts??

thanks in advance!!!
Ted.

Unless Savage has made some changes the BR will not go into F/TR stock as the hole spacing is different. They are the same barrel and action except the hole spacing.

Savage has really got the names of the rifles bckwards me thinks, the F class rifle has the 3 inch flat forestock, much like a benchrest rifle, the benchrest rifle they offer is a adjustable butt stock with a rounded forestock, the F-tr stock is a plain jane sporter stock with a cheek piece added to it, so really it depends on what your wanting to shoot as to which stock configuration you want to buy.

The action only that savage offers has a different action hole spacing and would not drop fit into a f-class factory stock, yet it was a savage target action with target trigger, pretty much identical to the action used on all of the above rifles. Hopefully oneday Savage will come out with the new model 30/300 series where all the recievers are either round and or flat top and all of them have the same action screw spacing, why make so much complicated for both them and us??

I would try ellwood epps for the 308 f/tr, seams they always had one listed when I was looking for the 223 f/tr. I finally gave up and built one, but I make my own stocks so it was just a matter of figuring out my donor action and inletting accordingly.

Thanks guys... extremely helpful.

Do you guys know - or could recommend the model that would give most flexibility for aftermarket parts like Choate stocks, mcmillan stocks etc etc?
And - what about the Savage Target Action you can pick up from Epps? (for 570.00) I know it's a little steep - but - if it leaves us more options since the action is more universal on that target action for aftermarket stocks - then it might be just worth getting the target action and doing a build. I can change Savage barrels etc and want to explore this...

Cheers!
