Differance between auto-disk and scale?

I have been reloading .45acp with Titegroup and 200gr SWC as per the reloading data that came with my Pro 1000. The Pro 1000 comes with the auto powder feed and the data states to use the .40 disk setting, which according to the data should dispense 4.8gr of powder. I check the powder with the Lee safety scale and it consistently seems to come in at 4.4-4.5 gr in weight. I do zero the scale every time I start and check the load every 50 bullets or so, any ideas why the auto dispenser and scale disagree?

I check my data I use for Titegroup in a autodisk, I get 4.5gr from a .40cc disk, .43cc gives me 5.0 gr of powder, If you want 4.7 or 4.8 you'll need to buy one of those Adjustable charge bars that lee has.

PS: I use 4.5 gr under a lead 230 RN and its a nice load.

My autodisc is the same. If you need a specific charge weight you can get the adjustable charge bar or file out one of the cavities.

The Auto Disk set up may not be dead on accurate as far as weight of charges, but it is consistent enough, by volume, to make very accurate loads.Just find a disk that produces a load your gun likes, and check it to make sure it's not too hot , and you're good to go.
I've been reloading pistol for years with one and have always found it to consistent time after time.I always weigh a few charges along the way, and they usually turn out very close to the same.

I called Lee, I had the same problem with different cal. They said just go the next size up on the auto disk if need be, reason for the light load, they do not want anyone getting hurt. They also allow for lot # changes etc. Trust your scale! Cheers!

Who cares about if its 4.5 or 4.8 .. what do the rounds shoot like??? Thats what its all about. I have been relaoding with a Lee Pro 1000 since 1991.. as long as you keep track of what disc with what powder shoots the best and the they don't exceed maximum pressures does it really matter??

I found that the auto disc left me wanting .
One hole is to small , the next to big .
When you need a small increase you can't beat the adjustable charge bar .
I have them on both my pro1000's , they are a far better way to do it .
For some shooters Brockpython they need to attain a power factor for competition , to slow and you take a hit on points , too fast and you take a hit on time . The disc's rarely allow you tune your ammo to the exact power level desired .

My rounds shoot quite nicely, although my new 1911 prefers RN over SWC, so I will be switching when I run out of SWC bullets. I also ordered the charge bar from Lee and a set of dippers. As I am just learning about reloading I won't be doing to much experminting just yet.
