difference between 45 ammo

Short answer is case length :)

.45acp or .45auto is the most popular incase you were wondering (no problems finding ammo for it in shops).

This is a Newbie question. I see 45 GAP,ACP and Colt. What is the difference between them?
.45 Colt (a.k.a. .45 Long Colt) is a revolver cartridge that's been around since the black powder days. .45 Automatic Colt Pistol is the round developed by Colt for it's 1911 model and is what most people refer to when they speak of the ".45 caliber". .45 Glock Automatic Pistol is basically a shorter version of the .45 ACP that was designed to fit smaller pistols.

I love noob questions because I learn from them too! While I knew the difference between .45acp, .45 Long Colt, and .45gap, I was never sure if "45 Colt" referred to .45acp or .45LC.

:D

The shorter one is .45 GAP. The taller one is .45 ACP.

45 Colt is ALWAYS referring to .45LC, if used properly. ;)

Colt .45 is both a drink and a make a calibre of pistol.

I have never heard anyone call .45ACP ammunition 45 Colt.

very bad pun- put the 3 together you'll see

if you go on some of the "other " forums , some folks get quite proturbed when you refer to the 45 colt as 45 long colt- it's 45 colt in my reloading manuals.

Seeing the case capacity of the .45 colt relative to the size of the .45acp, I can understand a little better now why some guys down south like the idea of CCW'ing their old six shooter.

I'm starting to develop cartridge envy, but I still plan to make a 9mm pistol my next purchase. :)

This often causes elitists to go into a frenzy....the term ".45 Long Colt" for a .45 Colt is as offensive as referring to the "Clip" on a M-14. These seemingly harmless phrases cause peoples heads to explode.
