I've come down to 2 rifles a 870 tactical express for 450$ or a 870 TACTICAL DESERT RECON for 559$(there on sale from 699$) Besides one being camo and one not what is the difference? The express actually has ghost sights and a rail which is a bonus. But the desert recon has speed feed I shell holding stock which is a bonus(saves from getting a saddle) what do you guys think would be best bang for the buck?

Go for the ghost rings and a rail. The speed feed is much more easy to acquire as an after-market accessory than a rail and ghost rings. The rail and rings require either tools/knowledge or a trip to a gunsmith, whereas the stock you can do yourself with just two simple screwdrivers.

Plus, I find the "tactical muzzle" aesthetically pleasing. Much more so than a camo pistol grip. I also had a pistol grip on my 870, and deciced to switch back to the original stock. For some reason, I just like it better.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not exactly sure on this, but I think the differences lie in the 870 vs the 870 Express, assuming they're not actually the same... IIRC, the Express is the "economy" version of the shotgun. Still very usable, and popular, but the build quality isn't as refined, at least not compared to a Wingmaster. I know some people have old Wingmasters that've been passed down through generations... I'm sure the Express model will serve you well, but it probably won't last nearly as long.

Still, I agree with blue, ghost rings and a rail are probably better in the long run... it should at least indicate that the receiver is drilled and tapped, and an aftermarket rail can cost $100+. If you decide you don't want the ghost rings and rail, let me know... :D

Stocks are more of a personal preference, so you'll need to decide for yourself what you like, and you may keep what comes with the shotgun, or you may end up buying something completely different than what either package offers. You probably won't know until you try it.

both are express grade guns, one has allmost no finish and seems to rust one contact, the other has a badly applyed paited on finish and flakes of easly.
If you looking to get a tactical 870 o nthe cheap then by the second one.
if you willing to pay good money and have a gu nthat will last a life time.
buy a new express and have some one refinish it in one of the epoxy based paints and apply GR sites , new stock, rail , side saddle ect.
