well i just picked up 2 more pounds of powder asking for H4831 and being given H4831sc by mistake, went back yesterday to trade and they never had any H4831. so my question is do i need to rework my load using the H4831sc from scratch or are they very comparable powders?

Same powder but cut into shorter sticks to flow easier through measures and tricklers. My loads with both are the same though SC is sure a lot nicer to work with when you're trying to get your charge to the 1/10 of a grain.

Hodgdon lists them as having the same burn rate. That, in my mind, means that they are the same powder.

Hodgdon claims that the H4831SC is a direct replacement for H4831. However, sensible loading practices dictate dropping back a couple of grains and working up again [even when changing lot numbers of the exact same powder] My personal experience leads me to believe that H4831 and the SC version are pretty close to identical. Regards, Eagleye.

thanks for the info guys, i plan on reworking my load a bit anyways so maybe ill drop it down a couple grains and try it out.

I use both. ZERO difference in velocity out of the same gun with the rest of the components the same, and as someone else said, way nicer to run through the powder thrower.
