Difference between IMR and H???

Ok, so I just bought a 300 win mag and started reading about reloading for it. Talked to some people and read lots of info about it and have come to decide that 4831 (SC if I can find it) is what I want but no one has said which one (IMR & H). Is there a major difference or which one is the one I'm after???

imr 4831 burns a hair faster than h4831
if your getting signs of presure at 56 grains of imr 4831 , you will get roughly the same signs around 57 /58 grains of h4831 .

Data for this propellant it not useable with IMR 4831.

I ran a 300 winny for a long time and every load ended up being the best using reloder 22. The first few I worked up were with H4831sc and reloder 22 gave me better accuracy and velocity in all cases.

What bullets were you using??? I am going to use Barnes 180gr TSX and want to get some 150's

H4831 sc 165/168 gr 75 gr ( ballistic tips) ---------------BEAUTY

Either one will serve you fine as long as you work up a load for it. Although they are close in performance, the are not interchangeable grain for grain. I've had better results with IMR myself, but every gun is different.


Buy a can of each and try them both. it's not like a pound of powder lasts a long time in the Winmag anyway......
