Looking at the cheaper shotshells, what's the diff in performance between the Sportsman Steel and Winchester Xpert?

MD, I use the Xpert 1550fps #4 stuff, NO complaints! For me, it's cheaper than the Rem Sportsmans stuff, at least here...

Cheers

I have not patterned the sportsman stuff but have patterned and use the expert BB's for everything , 3 1/2 inch anyway. I found the expert patterned really good for me in both modified and improved cylinder at about 30 to 40 yards away. Not that you mentioned it but I also found in the same load patterned about the same in Kent Fasteel. But as mentioned before the experts are pretty much the cheapest thing going. Once I forgot I had 3 inch 1 1/8 ounce number 2's in my gun and shot at a flock of geese and completely folded a goose stone dead before it even hit the ground at 30 yards. Probably just luck though! Cant beat the 1550 fps stuff though! Are you shooting 3 or 3 1/2 inch? Maybe I will stick with #2's for ducks and geese from now on now that I think of it. If you pattern the sportsmans let us know how it went.

Well I splurged and bought Federal #2s to try.

What do you think of them?

In 2 3/4 with 1 1/8 oz. of shot.

The only way to tell how they are, is to pattern them in your gun. Each load will shoot differently out of every gun/choke combination.

Well I can't beleive it, I went and bought another box of 3" BB xperts 6 months later and the pellets are round and even. I wonder if Winchester was getting complaints.

I think I'm going to start using them once this case of Kent is used up, there like $16 for 25 3 1/2" BB. Compared to $21 for 25 Kent.

You get what you pay for... All the cheap stuff will work OK.
If your just hunting ducks in a stick swamp or decoying Geese into 20 yards in a cut corn field then the cheap stuff works fine.
But if your hunting big water or pass shooting fast birds at long range any edge you can get is a bonus. For the harder hunting I will spend the extra money on the Kent steel shot, it is far and away the best steel shot I have used.

Yeah my buddy Kirk sends me all kinds of promotional stuff... I am anxious to try the new 1650fps stuff. I guess I'll have to have him out for a duck hunt this fall. He just sent me some really good food plot seed "Call of the Wild Brand" this stuff could be magic around the duck ponds.

I use the winchester 3.5 inch BB shot. It patterns well in my shotgun and I have taken large geese out to 50 yds. with the stuff. I like the kent fasteel too(so does the shotgun) Buy a box of each and try them all. Your shotgun and budget will be the determining factors.
