on the sponsors websites i see scope advertised as regular scopes and others advertised as rimfire scopes
what is the difference between them?

can i mount a regular riflescope on a rimfire rifle?

Just as stubblejumper said, mainly it's the parallax adjustment. I have mounted many different types of scopes to my .22 and all have worked perfectly. Just realize though that using a normal riflescope on a .22 at distances under 100 yards means your head will have to be at the same place every time or your shots might be a tiny bit off.

rimfire on a rifle is not highly recommended simply due to recoil issue (quality of materials and adhesives), Rifle on rimfire is absolutely fine other than the parallax issue.

Yes you can mount a regular riflescope onto a rimfire. Just make sure you get one with adjustable objective/parallax and you wont have any issues. I myself use a Bushnell 4200 Elite on a Savage .22 that has the AO so I'm able to focus down to 10 yards.
