Can someone tell me the difference between Varget and h-4895

I will be loading 7.62x54 and 308 Win for now and can't decide which one to buy

thanks

Both powders are manufactured by ADI of Australia.

H-4895 is slightly faster burning. This means you use less of it than Varget in a given load, all things considered. By the same token, it reaches maximum pressure sooner. It is better for slightly lighter bullets in the .308.

Varget is a universally excellent powder for the .308 with bullets of 150 grains or heavier. It's probably the most commonly used powder these days in .308 target rifles.

Given that you plan to load for the Russian cartridge as well as the .308, I'd personally choose Varget out of those two powders.

just like p-17 said, both are very similar powders. Both are "extreme" powders (ie minimal fluctuations in regards to ambiant temperature)

I decided which one to buy according to availability. I could never find Varget, whereas I have never had a problem finding pounds and pounds of h4895

Me three. H4895 and Varget are kissing cousins. H4895 is manufactured as "ADI AR2206H", and Varget is manufactured as "ADI AR2208". For what it's worth H4831SC and H4350 are also from the same powder line.

Both are really great powders for .308 and I would imagine for 7.52x54R also. You really can't go wrong with either one.

..and most stores like to charge more for Varget than other H powders although major powder distributors usually don't.

i went to buy some today.

i stopped at dante and they were charging about 1.5 that of le barons
le barons was charging about the same as higginson powders

unfortunately i will have to buy from lebaron once again........
