My friend CGNTZ member Khornet has a new in wrap buttstock. It has S stamped under where the rear sling swivel screws on. The profile of the pistol grip area is different than on a Long Branch rifle, it seems the Savage design is not cut as high up where you hold the buttstock. The butt is marked C Broad Arrow but no LB inspector numbers. Brand new walnut with some wrap still on it. Normal length.
What would that be worth (he wants to sell it) and anyone have any comments about the different profiles between S and LB butts? You would have thought they'd all build to the same mil spec...
I know all about Savage shipping all their parts to LB during the war after their production run was completed.

No.4 butt

I sold a brand new Savage butt awhile back to a CGN member and as I recall it had square S under wrist as normal and nothing else. I'd suspect your buddy's is a post war replacement piece. Is it a short (S), N or L marked?

I didn't notice a length marking, but we compared with an N and it was exactly the same length.
