Differences in Mauser bolts?

I really hate having other people handle my guns. Somewhere between the exporter and here the bolt for my small ring 98 Mauser went missing.
The inspector at Canada Customs noted it was missing when he opened the package yet there were no holes in the box. Exporter is sure he put it in the package. Round and ropund we go.

Anyway, the rifle has 1246 stamped on it, both the barrel and receiver, I have been told that could be DOM. It was made by a small outfit in Germany, looks almost exactly like this one:

By exact, I mean only the trigger guard on this one is slightly different and the chambering. I do know there are several different length Mauser actions.

So how in the great wide world do I get my little gem up and running now?
Can anyone offer the expense to get a bolt fit to this rifle for my insurance claim that I doubt I will get? Short of grounding all the airplanes this thing sat on, scouring the exporters place and everyone's house who touched my box I don't know what to do now.

Your help is appreciated.

consider the rifle damaged beyond repair and make a claim for the whole value. a mismatched bolt even if headspaced properly is gonna make that rifle worth way less.

Leroy Big Valley gunworks.
Three out of five were beat up. I think I have an ulcer from this crap show. To top it off I understood insurance would be covered in the shipping charges but they are saying I was supossed to get extra insurance myself. The total insurance I can get from Air Canada if I got the highest amount would not cover the cost of just this one, let alone the other two.

I have a fuzzy feeling in my tummy, but it is an urge to puke, not hug.
Where did that pack of rolaids go.......

Sincere sympathy. Try not to dispair too much. Worst case ontario get a head space gauge for the calibre of rifle and start trying bolts. Do I understand you got 5 of those sporter mausers? They are gorgeous if that pic is any indication.

Just an idea but take a good look at your pile of rifles and see if you can get one to share all the missing/damaged parts. Maybe you can put 4 together out of the 5? (get good screw driver first)

Sorry you had such a bad experience it sure sucks to have the fun taken out of a hobby. Thanks for bringing such nice mausers into the country.

After the dust settles on this if you are needing to sell one of those (even the boltless or damamged one) drop me a PM.

Thanks Dave. Only the one is a Mauser, the others were of far more importance to me, replacement heirloom guns. My almost like new Savage 23C 32-20 took the most damage. It is the stock and front sight so I guess that could be replaced but why do people need to act in this way is what baffles me. This has been one of the worst experiences of my life, most of it I have not even made mention of because I want to see how it unfolds first.

This little Mauser may be plain jane to most but it is almost exactly what I've wanted for three years. Unless I find another just like this I doubt I will ever sell this one. If I need to find a replacement bolt so be it. The damage to the rear sight I can work with, I doubt my loads will shoot to where these sights are regulated anyway but that's a bit beside the point.

I am not so sure finding a go-no go guage in 9,3x57 will be all that easy.
I am worried about there being different lug engagement and overall lengths etc as well.

Please hold on to them for me, I might need one. I have a K98 bolt here, just the bare bolt mind you. I need the whole assy. It had the typical wing safety and was actually very much like a Husqvarna 146 Bolt with the milled flat knob on the bottom and serrated. I can't recall if it was engraved like the receiver or not. I do remember the claw was polished silver and the body darker. The shop took the pics offline so I canot acces them anymore.

Noel not to sound to putor geeky here but if you looked at photos of those guns on line odds are the pics will be stored in the cookie file on your hard drive. Just do a little fishing and you should be able to find them. Rod

I am so up the creek

Well, my Brno 21H bolt fits quite sloppy at the back end to where it does not guide straight into the front ring of the receiver. Once in the front end it fits very snug, including closing the bolt all the way. A guy could get another bolt from a 21 but I don't like the butterknife handle in this particular gun.

My Husqvarna 1100 bolt will not close. The bolt handle corner contacts the angled portion before the lugs line up to cam into closed position.

K98 parts bolt is the same way. I have seen some bolt hangles relieved at that corner to allow that little more forward movement.

Anyone out there know a Smith who has a 9,3x57 go-no go guage?
I have no interest in doing all of this myself so you don't have to worry about not posting for that reason. I value my life.

Best I can come up with is get a Husky 146 bolt that already has a similar flat bottom bolt knob that is knurled then get a smith to fit it.

Leroy has officially given me the cold shoulder and left me on my own for this. After enjoying his company for awhile and seeing first hand how he conducts his buisness there is no way I will recommend anyone deal with him.

Sounds like a letter to the local Better Business Bureau where Leroy operates might be in order. Stir up a little *&%&%. Maybe post a question on 24 Hr. Campfire and see if anyone else has been treated the same way. It's a pain in the nether regions but it sounds like they need their tree shaken a little.

That's a very lovely Husky, though. Especially with all the parts intact.

Stuart, thanks for the advice, I might take it. Trouble is I would not put it past him to sue me in return. Yet another challenge is all the other reports I had heard of the outfit before I used them were rave reviews. I know of at least five guys who think very different of them after we sat at the border for 5 1/2 hours trying to get our goods across while he floundered there in a very unprofessional manner.

And by the way this one has no Swede blood in it, She's pure German!
