Differences in Powder Charges

I'm asking this question not so much for myself, but for my buddy who bought the Nosler book and is loading for 308 Win.

So perusing the Nosler data for 308, I noticed that the max charge for the bullet he's using (168 Gr HPBTs) was listed as 64.5 Grs of Vihtavouri N550. I thought that was a little much, so I went to Vihtavouri's website, where their max charge for the same setup was only 47.2 Grs. That's like a whopping 17.3 Grs difference!!

My question obviously, is how can they be so different? Is there something we're missing / not seeing?

he must be looking at the 308 Norma Mag.

or a huge typo.

make sure he starts low and works up. the Max listed was for thir rifle, not his.

pretty hard get 64 grains of anything in a 308 case. I agree with Jim. Wrong cartridge.

Damn! I feel so dumb now!!
You guys were right! It was 309 Magnum that he was looking at! I really didn't check, cos he came to my table with the book and started stabbing at it with his finger and getting me to go online and check Vihtavouri's website. I just sneaked over to his table and checked his Nosler manual where he had it bookmarked. It was for Winchester Short Magnum.

Actually I was wondering how one could actually fit 60+ Grs into the 308 case as well! Oh well, lesson learnt! Read ALL the text, even the BIG HEADLINES...not just the fine print.
