Differences in Wait Times for PAL and PAL/R Applications

I am shocked to learn that a friend that took the safety course at the same time I did has just received his license in the mail. We both took the course in early November, and I mailed my app in November 13 and he mailed his in December 10. The only difference is that I went for the restricted as well. I phoned Miramachi two weeks ago and confirmed that there was no errors or omissions on my application which would slow the process. I am wondering if there are additional checks required for the restricted or if this whole process has an element of randomness to who and how gets approved. The waiting is almost intolerable.

The only difference that I have noticed and which many others on the forum will attest is that when it comes to PALs, chances are great that they will not interview yourself or your references which may in turn shorten the PAL approval time.

I can attest that for my Non-restricted application which just had it's status changed to issued today (yay!) neither of my references nor my spouse was contacted.

They recieved my app on January 7, and contacted my references in feb. It went ti the Alberta cfo and haven't heard back yet.

It seems somewhat hit or miss with the NR apps, myself as well as my references were interviewed when I applied.

April 17: I sent my RPAL application in using registered mail (test results + application details at the same time).
April 22: It was accepted with signature on April 22 (According to Canada Post tracking).
May 28: It shows up in the RCMP's online tracker as "processing" (Over a month between when they received it and when it went into the system. When I inquired over the phone I was advised they would "get to it... it's sitting in the pile")
May 29: I call in and do my interview.
May 30: My references call in and do interview.
May 31: Status changes on RCMP website to "License issued."
June 11: License received in mail.

So for me, about 7-8 weeks between sending and receiving. Once it shows up in their online tool it shouldn't take any time at all to get issued as long as the RCMP approves your application.

I send my application on April 4 and show "processing" on April 10. I got my licence at June 4.
It is rpal and pal. I believe it's all depend on who handle your file. All about luck.

Thanks for this info. I am about 4 weeks behind you and will call them for an interview when I see mine pop up in the online tracker.

that's not 2 bad sent mine in Jan. they received it Jan. 28. Yesterday, June 18 they confirmed approval & said I should receive my license in 2-3 weeks. Almost 5 months, so when i finally get it, buy & receive a gun it will be over half a year before i can shoot
