Hi all,

New to the forum so here’s my first actual post.

My gf purchased a Winchester Wildcat for me this Christmas and I’m already doing research for my first center-fire rifle. I’m considering the Tikka T3x line and am looking for some insight regarding the differences between models. Primary uses are target firing and hunting, looking in .308.

Is the main difference just the chassis and bottom metal? Standard, Lite, Superlite, UPR, CTR etc.

Bonus question: will the 308 variant shoot 7.62x51 NATO as well?

Was at Cabela’s the other day and there was a huge difference in weight when holding the CTR and SuperLite. I’m thinking in the long run I’ll be modifying the rifle anyways. More customizable pull length, cheek riser, bottom metal change for 10 rd mags etc…

Should I just go for a standard one in stainless steel, use it for a while and upgrade from there? Or are there differences elsewhere that my research hasn’t turned up yet?

Thanks in advance.

Chi

Yes you can shoot 7,62x51 ammo in a .308. Tikka offers all calibers in one action length. I have a stainless / synthetic 6.5cm that I enjoy at the range and a battue in .308 for hunting. Primary difference between models is barrel length, barrel profile and stock configuration. Get one that suits your primary need. If you are precision shooting / longer range stuff, the CTR fits the bill. For the field, lighter and sleeker is better so a standard stainless / synthetic .308 would the the good choicem and its also good for the range. Or, of course, do what I'd do and buy 2!

You can decide if the added weight and larger mag of the ctr is worthwhile based on how much you'll be walking with it while hunting, as it will undoubtedly shoot better and easier weighing more. I'm inclined towards Tikka's stainless models personally
