Maybe I'm too new to this or my thumbs don't have the required muscles.
After I get about 4-5 inserted in the mag it gets nearly impossible to fit anymore.
Thought it migh be a bad mag; so I got a new one today, same situation.

Is it time for a Speedloader?

Get a Maglula loader and never look back. Some mags are pinned too tight and this will make it hard to insert the 10th round. It may also make it hard to seat the mag on a closed bolt on slide.

Try pushing the , already inserted cartridge , down , with your left thumb as you insert each new cartridge with your other free hand. I found that this works for me , even better and faster than the uplula thingy...

My factory glock 9mm mags were very very hard to get all 10 rounds in the mag When I first purchased my glock Maglulas are great. I'd suggest loading the mags and leave them loaded for a few days this should help.

I tryed my buddies M&P 9 mag loader last night, talk about a PITA, it's sloppy and you have to hold the mag against your body and then do a couple of steps to load up. I think I could load and fire off a mag , before he even gets his loaded with that thing. Maybe it's the wrong one or something. I found after a few times loading by hand , it gets easier. Just gotta get the right knack for it. I put pressure on them with my left thumb and then insert the others , using the tip of my thumb as a guide.

I went to the range Saturday with my new M&P 9. I couldn't get ten rounds in the S&W mags, and the pro mags weren't much better, although I did fill them. As soon as I got home I ordered a Magula, I had enough of that racket for sure.

Without seeing how you're holding the magazine and inserting the rounds it's tough to say if your method can use improvement or not. But there is no doubt at all that a proper method is mandatory.

I have to stop and think for a moment but when I'm reloading without the Maglula I hold the mag in my left fist such that I can easily push down at the rear of the already loaded rounds to create a little pocket with the top round and the lips of the mag opening. If I have a table surface I use it to support the butt end of the mag so I don't need to grip the mag as hard. My hand and thumb is still in the same position table or no table though. The round to be reloaded is in my right hand with my forefinger wrapped around the bullet and my thumb laid full length along the round with the tip even with the case head. From that position I use my thumb to push the head of the case down into the trough made by pushing the top round down. Once in place I slip my left hand's thumb away and push firmly down with the right hand thumb until the new round is able to slip in under the lips of the opening. The right hand thumb doing this while keeping the downward pressure. Repeat until full.

And yes, the Maglula does make this easier. But having so many range kits half the time mine is still at home when I need it. But I've done enough by hand that it's not so bad.

Short of doing a video that's about the best I can offer.

I use one for my 45 and have no trouble filling to 10 rounds, a different one for my ar-15, no trouble filling to 10 rounds.

Maglula all the way. I would hate my M&P magazines without one. In fact, I actually did hate my M&P mags before I discovered the Maglula.

Back in the "good ol' days" we used to clip a coil or two off the mag spring to make both loading mag easier AND SEATING the mag on a fast load (in IPSC competition). But whatever ...

I know what you mean these things are torture. The first time I loaded the thing I thought WTF !! My old Tokarev's and the 22's can almost be loaded with one hand.

I have the Maglula that comes with the MP40 range kit and the ones with glock work too. otherwise, it is one heck of workout for the thumb, especially on the new mags and the last round.

load all 10 rounds in like a man with your thumbs and leave them loaded. eventually if you shoot often enough (once a week at least) your springs will wear in and your thumbs will get stronger. or you could go the slow and expensive way and use an uplula mag loader.
