hey everyone,

I have a winchester 94 circa 1962. Its what I usually hunt with, but this year I noticed that when I try and load it, I can't put a bullet in without first opening the action slightly. The "door"(for lack of a better word) seems to be hitting on the part that pulls a new round up when your racking the lever. When I open the action slightly it will let me put one round in, then to put the second in I have to close the action and put in the rest, but even then sometimes I will have difficulty. Any idea on what this is happening, and what I can do to fix it. Before I was always able to load this gun smoothly, now its a pain in the butt.

Thanks

Check for loose screws, particularly the one that attaches the loading gate to the receiver. It located on the right side of the receiver about 1 to 1 1/2 inches behind the loading gate. If that isn't the issue it might be the carrier (lifter that raises the fresh cartridge up) interfering with the gate. When was the last time the rifle has had a full teardown and thorough cleaning?

I had a similar issue with my Marlin. I took it to the smith and he replaced the carrier dog.

Don't know if that is the problem you have so take it for what its worth...

Sounds more like the carrier spring.I had the same situation with my Grandpa's 1894 38-55.Happened to be in MT that summer and found a new one for $6.Picked up another for a spare off of E-Bay.Harold

great thanks,

would anyone have an link to an online breakdown/schematic/repair manual for this rifle...just so I know what everything looks like before I pull it all apart. Thanks
