Is there much dif's in the casing in post title ?.I know the brass is all rimmed and thought they must be pretty close as guys are making 225 brass from 30-30 but don't know about the 22 Savage HP ?.I've heard it can be done so lets hear about it !.
Thanks, 88

Your best bet for the .22 hi-power is to use 25/35 brass, necking from .30/30 to .228" or so will be difficult and require turning or reaming.

here's a 225Win-22HP-30/30 comparison for you:

ok this was bugging me so I had to check my books and here's what I found for 22 Savage HP:
MAKE FROM: .30-30 Win. a form die set is required.Anneal case.Run into form dies #1,#2 and #3,in order.trim to 2.05" & chamfer.F/L size.Case will finish fireform in chamber.
if that helps any...

In my 22hipower i use 25 35 brass once threw 22 hipower sizing die. After once fired your brass are fire formed for that gun.

I have a couple of boxes of 25-35 specifically for that reason, even though they may never get used...
I count myself as fortunate to be able to use 22Hp brass and actual .228 bullets...and still have boxes of factory ammo.
My wife calls it hoarding...I call it planning ahead :D

oh and I know a guy with a mold for such ;)

I guess what I want to do looks like it's not possible ?.I posted in the gunsmithing section about making a sav 22HP into a 225 rifle ( new barrel of course ) and now find the rim is thinner on the 225 than the 22hp and 30-30 and also smaller dia so the boltface is too big on a sav 99 22hp.
Could I use the 25-35, 22hp or 30-30 brass and neck it down to 224 dia so I've still got basicaly a .225 only with a dif case ?.What steps would be involved in doing this ?

When I ran out of .227 dia. bullets I used to load .224 dia. bullets in my Hi-Power. Accuracy wasn't great but it worked and I just used my regular Hi-Power dies.

What you're describing sounds like the old .219 Zipper cartridge which was just the .30-30 case (or .25-35) necked down to .22 (.224 dia.). I think that all you'd need is a new barrel and a set of .219 Zipper dies.
If you do go for the .219 Zipper - go for the Improved version (better ballistics and longer case life).

The 225 case is technically a semi-rimmed case, and is somewhat unique, sharing this feature only with the 220 Swift, as far as I know. The rim diameter is the standard .473, shared with the 30-06, 308, etc, so conversion to 225 or 220 Swift in a rifle chambered for these requires no boltface mods. But the larger 30-30, 35-35, 22HP rim is a different story.Eagleye.

.219 Zipper

Is the 219 zipper still a 224 dia bullet ?.If so then I can still use the barrel I'm able to trade for.

Yes, definitely .224 dia.

If another member of the forum has access to a scanner and the Hornady Handbook, Third edition
or Cartridges of the World or The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions maybe they could post the .219 Zipper specs. for you.

The .219 Zipper was a great cartridge - a friend had a Lee Enfield converted to the Zipper. You can get over 3600 fps with a 50 gr. bullet.
