I am in the process of buying all the necessary gear to start reloading, and although I have most of the basics right now, there are a few key items I have yet to purchase; one of them being a digital scale.

With so many choices out there I am a bit unsure which one I should go with. I really want to make sure I buy a quality, dependable scale, so I am looking for a few suggestions and a bit of buying advice from some of you more experienced reloaders.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

If you can get SmartReloader SR750 scale for about $30 - go for it.
It's the only one I use - very happy with it.

You should mention a budget.

Acculab VIC-123 is a premium scale, about $250 in the US.

EDIT: that scale has been discontinued, shown here for reference. Replacement is Sartorius AY-123, around $270

There are also good scales by MyWeigh Gempro 250 and 500 for around $150 or My Weigh i101 for $140

Acculab VIC-123 is a very good scale, about $250 in the US.

Sorry, I should have mentioned a price range

I would like to keep it under $100 if possible. I certainly do not need a top of the line scale at this point; just something that will give me repeatedly accurate readings and last for a couple years.

I purchased a digital jeweler scale from Hong Kong with great tolerances off ebay for $5. I have been using it to reload for about 3 years now. A great little unit. You can pay high dollar for RCBS etc. but at the end of the day as long as it has the correct tolerances they are all made in china. Every now and then, I will ensure it's calibration usind an analog scale... is bang on every time.

The biggest problems that arise with under $100 scales is repeatability and accuracy. Another thing to keep in mind is how long it takes for the scale to "settle" and give you a result.

Some people have luck with really cheap scales, some don't.

I also purchased one off e-bay for about $15 (with shipping). It works flawlessly. I have tested it against my beam scale numerous times and its right on. My scale doesn't have the "settling down" period mentioned either. Dump the powder in the tray and get a reading instantly.

So cheap I might buy a few more.

GemPro 250 that's what I've seen a lot of positive reviews on the internet e.g. accurate shooters, long range shooters, sniper hide etc. I'm personally using a green balance scale, but saving up for this one.

I have a Dillon D-terminator. It was around $130. Very happy with it. 5 years now
I tried one of the less expensive ones from "My weigh" and as one of previous posters mentioned, it didn't work for me. crapped out after 3months

I use the RCBS rangemaster 750 which is around $140. It's fast & great for sorting brass but I wouldn't trust it for powder loads on 1000 yard ammo.
Depends on what u will use it for.

I've got the same scale and my experience is the opposite. It's not a bad scale and does the job "OK" for my hunting rifles. Mine at times refuses to make the 1/10 increments like it's suppose to do, I would not buy another one.

My next scale will be the Hornady LNL Autocharge.

As far as scales go, I would recommend to get the best one you can afford. I have a PACT scale and I am very happy with it. RCBS also make really good electronic scales. Get a good beam scale to verify it also. Messing up with charges can be bad. If you should spend money on anything, a good scale is it....
