Dilemna: what would you do?

Thanks to everyone who responded. You basically confirmed what I thought.

I will explain to him why I am uncomfortable with his proposal.

pacobillie; This guy would seem to be some sort of an opportunist, hoping you are foolish enough to be parted from your money.
As others already said, tell him to pound salt.
What an a** he is!! Eagleye.

Why explain anything to him? As already stated, set up camp on the crown side and hunt the area. #### him and his $500 "fee". If he says anything, tell him you have already paid, in the form of taxes.

I answered an ad from a fellow hunter looking for a moose hunting partner. He has a cabin that he recently bought. It is adjacent to crown land. The previous owner of the cabin had built three blinds on the crown land, and used to hunt there. The new owner plans on hunting there too.

Lo and behold, he wants me to pay $500 for the privilege to join his hunting party. He will not be providing housing or anything and the $500 is not to cover a share of money spent towards preparing for the hunt.

He had not mentioned the $500 in his ad. I personnally find that outrageous, especially given that this is crown land and the chap is not providing anything. He is not an outfitter.

Is that ethical? What would you do?

If you give me 20 dollars you can hunt no any crown land in Canada. I won't even bother you on the hunt, and will let you go out on your own.

That guy must be out of his mind?

Just play along as if you plan to give him money, let him tell you the coordinates for the camp, then print off the Crown land map for the area and use the blinds...

You don't owe this guy anything...I wonder what the Ministry would think if they found out someone was trying to charge money for crown land use??
