Dillon 550 from USA

Guys I might bring in 550 from the US, other than shipping and HST should I be charged duty?

No duty on US manufactured goods...

I bought my 550 direct from Dillon. No fuss no muss and all in significantly less $$ than buying here.

I checked Dillons web site and Shooting Edge here in Calgary a couple of months ago. The local guy was actually cheaper than the Dillon web site prices, once you figured exchange and shipping. You may want to check it out from your side too, the shipping and brokerage charges were quite high on the quote I got.

Shipped via USPS=Canada Post, all you pay is actual shipping costs, plus a flat $5.00 brokerage fee and whatever the GST is owing on the goods involved, as long as they're made in North America. NAFTA means no Duties on N.A. made goods. The dollar, while fluctuating, is typically within 3-4 cents at par, so exchange rate costs are minimal. Dillon's quoted shipping costs are usually better than what Canada Post charges within Canada.

What did you guys pay for shipping? I have been debating it but I have no idea what the shipping costs would be. Depending on what they are will definitely influence my decision. Just a ball park figure would do.

When I got the quote they would not ship USPS (=Canada psot), only UPS so the shipping quote was $52 and the UPS brokerage handling fee was $85. Added to Dillons price it is more than buying local.

That said, Sinclair's offers the Hornady LNL for $399, $30 cheapper than Midway who won't deal with Canadians at all on anything.. Cheapest I can find it here is $589. Last time I got stuff from Sinclair they shipped it USPS. That was 6 months ago so I assume that is still the case. Shipping should be about $40, and brokerage handling is only what Canada post charges, $5 plus GST. If that confirms when I call Sinclair's I will order the Hornady LNL through them.

I ordered a Dillon 550 from a dealer in the US that had a sale on and I saved about 175.00+ even after the shipping. The shipping from Nevada to Alberta was 92.00 USPS. The key to saving a lot of money on Dillon or other reloading equipment is to get it on sale and it must be shipped by USPS.

To my door I bought a 550, 4 tool heads, 4 powder dies, 4 conversion kits, spare parts kit, 4 primer tubes (large and small), strong mount , low powder sensor and all for 625.00 US.
