In normal non hoarding times, the 550 machines would usually go for about 75-80% or new price. They hold their value so well because of the no-bs life time warranty and they are great machines. Having said that in these times where you are lucky to score a sleeve of primers if you can find them you might have to pay a bit more because I would think it is harder than heck to find even a new machine from a dealer right now. Call some of the sponsors on this site and see if a new machine is available. They come up on this site in the EE section once in a while and are quickly sold for 80% of new price or about 500.00.
For the machine itself $500 to$600 would be a decent price. But they will generally come with various accessories, dies, plates, etc. So you need to factor that in as well. The accessories can make a deal good or bad.
80% of CURRENT retail is a fair price for any Dillon machine due to the lifetime warranty they offer. Parts/accessories other than die sets seem to maintain the same value.
The 550 is up to the third generation, know which one you're getting. Paying 80% of current retail of a 550C would probably not be a good deal if it's a 550A, though I confess I'm not up to speed on what the generational changes were.

I usually figure one dollar for the the model number, that is a 550 goes for around $550. It's just a rough estimation. Ditto on up the line. 650, 1050 etc. Of course, with our dollarettes, that is changing. - dan
