Dillon 550B play in the powder measure/collar interface

Hi guys,

I've been loading for a while now and for the last few months have noticed a fair amount of slop in the powder measure and collar interface, the tube on which the powder chamber rides. The whole powder measure plastic column, exit pipe etc. rocks quite a lot while sitting on the collar. Every 5 or 10 loads,the powder measure binds a bit then snaps back to position....it hasn't affected loads but I am concerned it might without me noticing.

Has anyone else run into this? I will call Dillon about it but thought I would check in here to see if anyone else has found this.

They all have a slight bit of "wobble" to them(a requirement of "free movement & operation) but it sounds like yours has more than needed to work freely. There is supposed to be a white plastic "bushing" inside the measure mechanism that the measure slides on when activated and sounds like maybe yours was installed without one. You can check if one is installed by just removing the measure from the thru die. the bushing should be visible from the bottom between the measure outside body & the powder drop tube.

Well thank you so much for the explanation, I looked at the diagram of the machine and what I originally thought was a powder funnel, turns out it's the bushing you are talking about, and mine is missing, which is why there is so much slop in there.

I called Dillon to confirm and after I finished describing the situation the fellow, who was very helpful and knew the machine inside and out, asked me for my address and said he would just send me a whole new body collar assembly which includes that bushing, NO CHARGE! Now THAT is customer service and I can say covering a 20 year old machine under warranty, well, what can I say, Dillon is amazing.
