Dillon case feeder disengaging

I'm setting up a new Dillon case feeder and I'm having a weird issue. I have a message in to to Dillon but figured I'd try here in case I can resolve this today.

The issue is that the case feeder plate disengages from the drive piece while in operation. I'm not talking about the clutch slipping, but rather the plate lifts off the drive shaft (that horizontal pin) while running. If I push on the plate with the case feeder empty, there's a fair bit of wobble up and down so I'm thinking something isn't right. I'm not overloading the hopper, in fact I'm using probably less than 50 cases. This is with 9mm and I am using the small pistol case feeder plate. It has happened with a case under the plate but it's also happened many times without one underneath. Also has happened when a case has caught on the deflector but also many times without doing that.

Any thoughts?

The big grey disc plate should sit very close to the surface of the big blue hopper cylinder.

The wobble up and down you mention is not right.

Adam is right…there is a small set screw you need to loosen and then re-tighten on the large bolt that holds the shell plate in place. Tricky adjustment to get it just right. Tight enough so the plate doesn’t have any noticeable up/down play but will still rotate freely. Don’t loose the spring and ball in the process that the shell plate indexes on.

You don’t happen to have the big washer installed by any chance?

Best upgrade to a Dillon pistol case feeder plate is getting a DAA plate instead. :)

Is there a set screw on the lower clutch? A pic of what all lifts out would be good.
The case feeder is on what model? I have 2 XL650's.

That sounds like it makes sense, unfortunately I don't see any set screw to adjust. Perhaps that is on older models? This is a casefeeder that came with an 1100, purchased new in the last 2 weeks.

No but in desperation I did try with the big washer - that didn't help (or make it worse either).

I played around with a sharpie late last night (marked the inside of the bowl at the top of the shell plate. When I rotate the installed plate with the motor, the plate "lifts" 7 mm in height from one side of the plate to the other. The plate seems straight so not maybe it's a motor alignment issue.

two entirely different parts of the press. You are referring to the steel shell plate on the top of the operating ram but the OP is referring to the large flat grey plastic thingy inside the case feeder drive body

They way I see it, or the way it sounds, one of the following is probably your issue.

1) There's something in the casefeed plate clutch hole that's not allowing it to engage the drive pin fully.

2) The drive pin itself is too long/high for some reason.

3) There's something on the underside/edges of the plate, or the top/sides of the casefeed bowl, that's causing the plate to lift (plastic sprue?). Run the plate without brass and see if it's rubbing anywhere along the bowl causing it to hop off the drive pin.

Dillon sent me an email today and I ended on the phone with them a few times this morning. Pretty awesome customer service thus far! I took a bunch of measurements and sent photos. The guy I was talking to was going to talk to his manager and get back to me - I was unavailable after lunch (in a treestand :) ) so he's supposed to call me back tomorrow.

I think that what you pointed out 4n2t0 with the clutch plate hole might be the issue. There's nothing stuck in it, but one side is just slightly less deep which may be causing the issue. I'll follow up when I hear from Dillon. I may also try to borrow a plate to see if mine looks to be the problem. I may end up buying the DAA plate (for sure the deflector piece) but I want to make sure nothing else is wrong with the Dillon setup first.

Thanks for all the replies All. Love this community!
