Dillonprecisionvideos has posted (Sept 2015) to YouTube the definitive series of cleaning and lubricating videos for the presses. I highly recommend the series to those reloaders who want to keep their machines up to standard. Upon request Dillon sent me the 550/650 alignment tool and punch for free.
Dillon recommends oil for the shaft and grease elsewhere. Buried in its support site I read a frequency recommendation from a Dillon tech. If you reload 1000 round per month, relube annually, otherwise every 2 years. These days I shoot 20% of that and was touching up the oil/lube more than once a year. I might reduce the frequency a bit, especially the greasing. However I do find that frequent oiling/wiping keeps the shaft clean. For the primer bar and slider I continue to use alcohol as recommended.
The 550 was easy to do and I left the machine mounted through the process. If anyone in the Edmonton area had questions/issues with the process, shoot me a PM.
Note the update: Removed reference to 1050 as part of the Dillon series. The YouTube user Gunrunner411 created a 1050 teardown and lube video: 'how to disassemble a Dillon 1050'.
