Hello,

New to the site and want to get into reloading. A good friend suggested a square deal B for loading handgun loads which is mostly what I'll be doing. However I do use 308 for hunting and always like future proofing myself. Just not sure if it's worth spending the extra now or jump into it with the deal B and see how I like it etc.

Curious to hear any other suggestions or items that I would need.

Appreciate the help

The square deal is a good press for handgun calibre cartridges
The dies are not the standard size/pitch 7/8x14
Move up to a Rl550 where you can use basically any brand dies
I have found a single stage press easier to resize rifle cartridges on due to the thicker shell plate

RL550 works well for <10000 rounds per year.
It is very flexible for calibers, and the conversion kits are cheaper.
Somewhat limiting is its toolhead, it has 4 stations, vs 5 stations on 750.
My pistol setup is deprime/size in station 1, then powder dispenser, then DAA Mini Bulletfeeder, then seat/crimp.
On a 750, one could add powder check before the Bulletfeeder or separate seat and crimp. 750 also has an option for casefeeder. Both are an advantage when loading volumes. Otherwise 550 is an excellent option.

I've run 2 Square Deals for a few years now and wouldn't change. 95 % of what I shoot is pistol. 100 rounds for 357 takes me about 20 mins.
Buying a caliber change is about $100 cheaper compared to a 550, $150 for 650/750

I would go with a 550C for the simple reason that it uses std dies to future proof your self.
It is hand progressive vs auto progressive....
if you wish a true progressive, then bite the bullet for a 750

If you intend to shoot 10k rounds or more a year, buy a 750 or 1050. They hold there value and pay for themselves in time you get back.

If youre going to shoot 300rifle rounds a year and maybe 2k pistol, you could easily single stage it and learn slowly before you go ham crazy in a press that you're not utilizing.

My experience is deep in the thousands of arounds a month route.
If money is no object, stay away from dillon and go mark 7.

The Square Deal is ideal for cranking out respectable quantities of handgun ammo (also good for PCC or lever-action Cowboy rifle). That alongside a plain single-stage press for 308 for greater precision in smaller quantities can be a very good reloading setup.
