Disapointed with Savage's stock choice

I have been interested in the Savage for some time, with all the great reviews & with it out shooting the Remington right out of the box. But just haven't had to time or the funds to go out & pick one up with all the home Reno I have been doing. I'm getting closer to picking up a 10FP or 12FV. I would really like to get the 10FP in a .223 cal but I'm very disappointed with Savage choosing a plain or choate stock of there .223 cal I wanted at least a HS or McMillan stock like the .308 cal I never really liked the choate stock. but it's the only option for an upgrade without buying a HS or McMillan on the side I would think the cost would be a lot higher getting one of these fine stocks on it's own.

Now I liked the .223 for 2 reason ammo cost & varmints.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do with the stock issues?

I own a 10 FPLE-1A with a Choate ultimate sniper stock in .223. I rather like the stock, but it does come with either Choate, McMillan, HS or standard stock in .223 cal. I ordered mine from Elwood Epps, give them a call. There are other suppliers out there as well. Good luck,

I was looking at this years 2006 catalog it list the 10FP with 2 stocks only. unless Elwood Epps is offering a choice in stocks out of there pocket. if that's the case I will ring them up & see.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, the 223 versions only come with the Choate or Tupperware stock. The 308 can be had in either the Savage t-ware, Choate, HS Precision or McMillan.

Not sure why they don't offer the other stocks with the 223. Fortunately I wanted a 223 and was spared the anguish of a sheiBen stock or the expense of an upgrade..

Buy the Savage with the plastic stock. Bed it and try it. If that doesn't float your boat, you can get an aftermarket stock from any maker you want. I have used the factory stock on a few LR rifles and they shoot just fine. A bit bendy in the forend but that can be corrected or simply ignored if you free float the barrel enough.

Ian Robertson has some very nice designs and is a Canuck. Boyds has some comfy and dirt cheap lam stocks. Stockade makes some real nice ones and their LVT is a looker for way less money then the HS/McM. Of course, you can add a HS/McM.

Stocks are easy to get once you have the metal.

I'm having the same dilemma as you...

I have the 12FV in .223... it shoots awesome with just the plastic stock... it will eventually be replace, but for now it's doing really well

i know what you mean

i have the same problem on my 308 cal. i was too cheap, i bought the 10fp std. i ended up getting a new stock bell and carlson. now, it shoots good with the pistol grip and the cosmetic look ofcourse.
