Disappointing CCI minimags

Purchased CCI minimags, 36 grain hollow points, in the 300 packs with a picture of one of the croc hunters on it.
Well Half the bullets did not want to come out of the trays because of a heavy coat of paraffin like coating that had hardened in big gobs on the bullets, preventing them coming out of the trays.
Trying to rub the wax of was very hard, shooting them with the wax coating gave groups of 3-4 inches at 50 yards. Unacceptable. My old stock WW power points by comparison shoot between .4-.6 inch groups at 50 yards in both my CZ 455 and my CZ 453
The bullets that looked normal and were not coated with gobs of hardened paraffin type lube, grouped around 1.5-2.0 inches. Subpar performance of what I regard as supposedly better then average Ammo, considering the price; Box of 300 retails at P&D for $33.00 .
Will try to talk to the CCI rep and see what he can do if anything.
Anyway, check your boxes for the horrible gobs of hardened wax sticking to the bullets, before plunking your money down.

I have contacted them last summer for the same reason and was told it was normal and they tested it and there was nothing wrong with it...

Even with pictures of the actual ammo and results (poor results) that came with it...

Disapointed by the ammo and CCI answer's to it

You mean ammo endorsed by guys that shoot gators from 2ft away isn't accurate at any distance?
Who woulda thunk it....

Not every rimfire rifle likes every brand of ammo, premium or not. I usually start with 6 different types that suit my needs and go from there... maybe trying 6 more before dialing in my scope.

I had a couple bulk boxes (525) of Blazer that had a lot of excess wax that was gumming up the actions pretty good, so I soaked all the rounds in hot water. Problem solved.

My CZ455 American does not like the "Croc Guy" ammo. 4" groups at 100 yards but it is not that fond of MiniMags HP either but under 3". It is fine with Round Nose where it was under 3" at 190 yards.
Any time the velocity is consistent in a lot number. I did not realize the "Croc Guy" HP's were lubed as they are copper washed.

Never had much luck with accuracy with CCI Mini Mags. Winchester Power Points and Bulk Remington Golden have been much better. The new Winchester Hyper Velocity .40gr are pretty good and really smack.

I tried that as well with some, and ended up with about 10% duds, water leaked in past the bullet and wet the powder.

Mine neither with the hollow points I save them for the Ruger 10/22 the regular solids are okay though..

I went through a couple hundred of the CCI Choot Em just yesterday and several hundred rounds of different stuff over the weekend. Used it in my CZ 455, Marlin 39A and a Cooey. I get the same lack of results as everyone else, but no problems loading with the wax. Well maybe the Cooey struggled a bit more and I could see wax being scraped off during feeding.

I prefer CCI rimfire ammo and find it cleaner than many others. But I've also found the 40gn to be preferred in my guns

You know, I was thinking the same thing.

But, I do like the regular CCI mini mags , not sure if they are one and the same or there is some difference.

I do know they shoot three inches higher than the American Eagle Hollow Points with same point of aim .

Tight Groups,
Rob

I shoot RWS a lot and that stuff has an excessive amount of oily/waxy goo on it and it's some of the best shooting ammo I've ever shot. I'm not sure the lube is the cause....

My CZs didn't like CCI Mini-Mags but weren't as bad as some have stated here, however every other .22 I have loves the CCI Mini-Mags. My CZs really liked standard velocity ammo though, so maybe it is something with the CZs not the ammo?

Hmm...maybe your box of ammo got a little to warm in the sun or something like that? I had a box of the same Choot'ems out with me last summer gopher shooting, set it on the tailgate of the truck, went for a walk and forgot about them. Came back to them about an hour and a half later and all the wax had pretty much migrated to the tip of the bullets.

I have had a couple boxes that were rather too waxy though, and the couple bricks of Blazers I managed to scoop up last December were REALLY waxy, had to pull each one out and leave half the wax with the container! However, I'm rather lucky I guess as all my guns love MiniMags, waxy or not.

I ran thousands of CCI Blazers through my Waltz Hollow-pointer for an upcoming gopher trip and was amazed at how much wax flaked-off during that process. Every bullet got brushed-off with an old toothbrush before re-packing. Would have never thought there was that much on there, but it seems to shoot fine from my CZ452~with or without modification.
