Re: Norinco M14. This may be a silly question, but how does one get the top piece of the stock apart from the barrel? There's a sort of half moon clip at the rear that looks like it should come off to release it, but I'm not sure if there's a trick to it that I'm missing or I'm totally out to lunch. Any help would be appreciated. I did the dishwasher trick with the stock and it worked great so I want to put the other little stock piece through it too, so it's as clean as the rest of the stock. Thanks.

easiest way to remove without cracking the handguard is to loosen off the gas assembly and slide it forward an inch or so. Wrapping some tape on your barrel is good to prevent scratches during this procedure. Once the gas assembly is moved down the barrel a few inches, grasp the handguard and slide it forward until it comes free. Installation goes in reverse

Hey that other little stock piece is plastic.Might not take the hot water or heat cycle to well.Ya I know it can handle the heat from the barrel etc but then it is supported by the barrel and front band.Just wipe it clean should be good enough.
