I have a containers of old gun powder, and I want to dispose of it. What is the best, and safest method of disposing of it?

Thanks

Depends on whether its 'gunpowder' or gunpowder. 'gunpowder' being the smokeless propelent commonly used these days, mainly composed of nitrocellulose, nitroguanidine etc. Or the real stuff made of potassium nitrate, sulfur and charcoal. Only the latter will be good for your lawn.

But really, just keep it for burning. Especially if its the old real stuff, the smokeless only burns relativly slow in the open.

Mixed in Flower beds or gardens makes great fertilizer, but not to close to the barbecue!

When telling stories around the camp fire have a pinch or two in your hand and when a good punch line or what ever comes around in the story wave your hands as in body language, and flick a little into the fire it really adds to the entertainment.
Any kids that are paying attention will think your magic.
When I first saw that (being a kid at the time) I was in a state of ahhh.
