just wondering how disabled you need to be to hunt with a crossbow durring bow season?I hurt my elbow a few months ago and it still gives me some mean pain pulling my bow back.I want to bow hunt but I eather have to get a light pull bow(dunno bout that) or use my cross bow.it is 150lb pull but I can do it without any painbecause I mostly use my left hand .how would I go about getting the ok to hunt with it.would I need to get a doctor to write something to someone?I am kind of blind here as to what i need to do this has never came up before

A paper from the doc. with , ''this fella is pretty banged up. No bow shooting allowed for 2 years, followup requested by patient after said time. Should look into a crossbow to prevent more damage to his arm.''

Give me a break!!!!! Live with it and quit being such a puss. The handicap stuff is meant for permanent disabilities, not temporary injuries. You know, people who lost a leg, arm, multipples of the above.
I have had lots of injuries over the years from one thing or another, horses, motorcycles, what have you. I got by and didn't run out looking for a handicap licence. ( Read broken hips, ribs, spinal processes, etc.)
If it is a permanent thing fine, but otherwise, get over it!!!

I am in alberta.with my injury I was told not to work but I canot go on dissability I need to suport my family and keep my self busy.I don't think I am being a "puss"just because I havn't had a streak of broken bones like you have.the work I do is hard on my elbow but I need to work which is part of the reason I am told this isn't getting better.why should I risk making it just that much worst when I don't have to by pulling my bow?I will probably use my bow if I can't get a cross bow licence.but I like to practice lots year round and if I don't practice I might be "macho"like sasquach but I would rather be a "puss" with a vital hit deer than a"macho"with a wounded non lethal hit deer.I asked a question if you don't want to help just don't post.
btw.in alberta a hunter with one arm or no arms can not shoot a cross bow.a cross bow made to be shot with one hand is a prohibited weapon.

Talk to the local ministry office and see what you need. I would assume that an official document from your doctor stating that you are unable to use a compound bow should work. Can't hurt to try. I am sorry that some of the people on this board feel so bad about you using a crossbow, I use a crossbow legally in southern Ontario hunts and I am not disabled. All hunters should welcome anyone wanting to hunt and support those that do.

Here in N.B., the crossbow thing is a no-go, ministry of natural resources won't allow them... And that irritates me to no end... It's a bow, it flings an arrow...
I'd plead your case with your doctor, get a descriptive note like Levi said should do it...

Depends on your province regulation laws.
Here in Qc, some zone have it legal at the same time as bow and in other zone, just bow, and in others NO CROSSBOW even with an handicap problem.
I could apply for that handicap autorisation to use a crossbow instead of a bow as I had multiple back operations, which I would be fully intitled to have because I can't pull my bow more then 2-3 times in a row, that's it, not too good to practice or to hold a shot for long time etc.
I would also be very insulted if someone would say to me to "get over it" without knowing me first but it's not my case here....
That said, I beleive that too many hunters took privilege of this "option" without been really limited in either movement, strenght or physical handicap which has been negatively perceived by other hunters, sometimes with reasons, sometimes without
resulting in a overall negative image of the injured or handicap hunter who applies.

The perception that a Crowwbow is some how advantageous over a Compound bow is completely rediculous.
Compound bows are lighter, faster to load and easier to draw and with 85% let off are just as easy to hold and aim. The truth is that Compound bows have far more advantages than a Crossbow and are far more technologically advanced.
Even the most backward and closed-minded States like Georgia and Alabama have now seen the inanity of these stupid restrictions and made Crossbows legal for archery season.
