Dixie Tri-Ball available in Canada?

If you're going to make your own "tri-ball" loads, make sure you use hardcast lead. Soft lead (aka .58 cal muzzleloader balls) will flatten out in the barrel, and could possibly create a "wedge". It may not blow the barrel, but can cause pressures to spike to bad levels.

Didn't happen to me personally, but I know a very experienced slug shooter it has happened to.

Somewhere in here I have a slug load/tri ball load listed. I'll try and track it down. It might be on the huntingBC forum too.

Ok, from my notes, for those who care about this. I haven't made this load personally (yet), so can't say if it's safe:

Approx. Tri-Ball 3" load*
Shot: 3 hardcast .575 round balls (approx. 858 grains)
Wad: The orange wad #TUPRW123 from Precision Reloading. While you are dealing with them, get a bottle of their buffer....#PRPSB22.
Hull: New Cheddite or Fiocchi 3"
Powder: 28gr Blue Dot
Primer: Unknown (I'd use a CCI 209 primer just to be safe)

(*Please note this load is untested as of yet. Play safe, do your research etc)

Vibrate the buffer down around the balls and just covering the top of the top ball. It will take about 2.8cc of buffer.

Put a thin over shot wad on and roll crimp...keep ypur OAL at least to .2.76"

Like I said, no direct experience with this load yet, but I will probably make a couple in the next little while. So until then, do your research and be safe. I got this load from correspondence with James Gates, so I didn't quite pull it out of thin air haha.

For round ball/slug loads, there's another thread detailing my antics with those. Still have all ten fingers too :D

Hrm.

I guess locally the question would be if it was considered a "ball" load, or a buckshot load. NB laws state you can use buckshot 200m of a dwelling, but slug/ball loads can only be used once you are 400m away.

For guys who like to hunt the secret corners of the city (where all the biggest bucks in the area are, I kid you not), a powerful, accurate buckshot load would be a huge benefit. But if it was considered a "ball" load, it could land you in a lot of hot water.

Guess I should ask a warden. The regs don't really help - they just state the minimum sizes for buckshot, not the maximum.
