Like the title says...after a few drinks I decided to install some parts. A few problems have popped up. My original CTR stock I used red locktite on it years ago, I forgot about this. Anyways I slight stripped the stock threads. No big deal as I have a few spare stock tubes. My oem LMT stock tube seems to be angled slightly upward, not hugely noticeable but not exactly level either. Does this sound wrong? The threads on the receiver arent damaged or anything. On the LMT the the buffer tube has a a small extension on it at the end, I have this so the tube is completely flush with the receiver body, does this sound right? The LMT tubes are alittle different then the other milspec tubes.

Also when I removed my tube nut, the spring which retains the rear takedown pin is totally killed, Im not sure if it was binding over time or what. If I order a new rear takedown pin, do they commonly come with the retention springs? Or are the springs seperate? ANybody know a good kit to buy?

Thoughts on the stock? Or does this sound normal? The upper and lower got together as usual. No gaps or issues other than the rear takedown pin which is stiff because of the damaged spring in it.

Am I gonna be in for a big surprise when I shoot it?

18 year old rum is good stuff...:D:D

I gotta go back to drinking my stuff...I need some springs.. send me your springs!

Questar and Brownells come to mind for all the little spring (detent) that tend to get bent, lost , or rolled off the workbench and under. Been there, misplaced that but I was sober!!

I've been happy with whatever lower parts kits Mark at Questar has brought in....

Springs

The DPMS kit from Questar will have everything you need. Every spring for an AR is in it. Oh, in the takedown pins I have ordered, the spring never comes with it.

I have the spring kit from DPMS, not sure why but the spring is right lenght but the OD is slightly larger and it wont fit on my lower? As for the slight tilt-maybe 5 degrees of upward loft on the buffer tube does this sound odd?

Sounds like the DPMS spring you are referring to is the selector detent spring which is thicker than the take down and pivot springs (but same lenght).

The LMT extension tube should be same same angle as any other... could be tube is bent or threads on tube or lower are "off"... who knows without seeing it or comparing it to other tube that is known to be correct and seeing where the difference is.

The tube should not be angled upwards - the bolt carrier needs to travel into the tube. Excessive bending will casue binding.

Picture's worth a thousand guesses ;) (re. angled buffer tube)
Was the previous tube angled the same way or just the LMT one?

I'm guessing that your "slightly strippped stock threads" could be the issue... possible that you managed to screw in the LMT tube "cross thread" and that it's gone in on an angle instead of straight.

Like others have said, without pictures there's no way to know anything.

have checked again, the lower threads on the tube insertion area are ok, no sign of galling or marring. The tube went on by hand easily, so I dont see it being cross threaded. It is not angled up alot, just fractionally. I will have to get a picture of it.

Took it out and shot it tonight. It wont cycle. Shoots just fine, but doesnt eject the empty and doesnt appear to even contact the buffer. Any idea on this? Gas tube issue? I have recently installed a PWS cqb brake as well.

USP= official CGN gunsmith mangler...

I put the gas tube in upside down. Still have no idea whats up or if theres a problem with the buffer...

#### its far beyond that now, this thread will serve as a lesson for others on what not to do... lol

I have some more parts coming in a few days along with an instructional dvd on how to rebuild and fix an AR... should I watch the dvd before or after I start the fixings?

If you watch the DVD before starting any "fix", turn in your man card  .

(E)

Yup, #### it up and then go back to the instructions after you break something. It is the man thing to do. :D

I have bought a large hammer as well. Like most things in life, things can be better solved with application of a severe hammering with a large heavy mallet.... :D
