I thought I'd share this in case anyone's interested in trying something similar. In the past I've used many oversized 870 safeties, including Scattergun, Vang Comp, and S&J. This time instead of shelling out $10-$15 and waiting a couple weeks for it to arrive I thought I'd try making my own. A standard safety, a small bolt, JB Weld, and 30 minutes later this is what I came up with:

Quite simple to do:
-Find a suitable bolt (or nut or whatever else you want to use). I measured the diameter of my S&J safety to be 11.1mm. Too big and it won't fit in the trigger group, too small and it's not an oversized safety anymore! The bolt I picked was a little too large in diameter so I put it in the drillpress and held a file to it until it was 11mm.
-Cut the head of the bolt off with a Dremel tool and grind it flush.
-Clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner or alcohol, apply the JB Weld, and clamp the safety and bolt head together for a while.
-Pat yourself on the back.
