I have a 223 savage axis that I would like to thread with the ar 15 threads so I can put a flash supressor on it

Has anyone done this? What's needed? Any walk throughs

Doesn't savage already make a model of axis in 223 with a threaded muzzle? Not only that but I'm pretty sure there won't be enough meat on the standard model for 1/2 28 threads.

I believe it's the axis sr that is threaded. How much material do I need in order to cut threads? I have a lathe so that's not a problem. I would still need to buy the die.

Do you know what a gun smith would charge?

If you have a lathe you don't need a die. Turn the appropriate amount of muzzle to .500, cut 28tpi threads until the unit screws on. As far as gunsmith charges are concerned, if you have the barrel/receiver stripped right down, it is not a big job to do the machine work. Half an hour? Should be no more than $50.
