Since I haven't been able to make it to any of Barney's clinics I decided to remove the scope from my M305 shorty and put on a railed forearm that I picked up for $20. I like to experiment (with cheap stuff) and I had an aluminum airsoft M1A forend available and a Tasco red dot sitting around at home so I thought ... "why not?". I was rather shocked how well the airsoft part fit the M305.

I was more curious to see if the setup would hold zero more than anything else.

This is what I got at 25 yards after zeroing... I think I need another couple of clicks to the right but the Tasco is about a 4MOA dot... rather large. Since it seems to hold zero, I may dig up a 2MOA red dot to try out. CQB anyone? :p

not sure how well i would trust airsoft constructs, but it does look good!

speaking of red dots, i'm putting a sparc 2 on my set up once i complete my build. if the platform is hard on them as mentioned, i'll be glad for the life time warranty ;)
 
I used something similar to this

The front clips into the front band & the rear bolts into the receiver at the scope mount. I didn't use the barrel braces as they didn't quite fit the barrel profile (barrel is slightly out of index). I was surprised at how secure it felt.

As I said, the price was right & I like to play.

Plink: I agree, the Tasco is big, old & ugly. I don't expect it to last too long but as long as it works, I won't complain. :)
 
here is another option... SOCOM 18 with UTG rail system. I re-finished the stock with duracoat, because the factory finish is crappy. Its my non restricted version of the SOCOM 2! lol

Speaking of airsoft fun, at least you guys KNOW that you are all about having fun on the cheap and seeing how it works. With anything built around the Norc/Poly platform, dimensions are rather goofy and often the results are hit and miss. More often its miss instead of hit. I often get many PM'ed questions about why the shzt don't fit. Hey, it's a Norinco! :D

I feel sorry for the folks who spend a pile of money on exotic modular platforms only to discover that often the groups are not that great or they did not improve. There are so many explanations and so many more variables that gave rise to said goofy accuracy. Where does one start? Buy a Savage, Tikka, Sako, Remmy, Winny, Browning etc!

For the rest of you having fun with the Norc... leave it at that. Have lots of fun because it's not worth getting too serious about accuracy in a Norc, well minute-of-ashtray anyways.

I am running a Vortex Sparc 2 on my .308 Remmy 700 that i'm hauling around for whitetail this rifle/deer season. :D I'm hoping to give it a workout and report back to all of you! :)

I figure its good enough for a head shot at 100 yards (good enough for me) when the Zombies hit the fan... and maybe get a guest spot on The Walking Dead! :p
