I've got one of these Tac Pro cheek risers like the one above and while I have it setup for left handed shooters, it's not so friendly for my right handed friends as the large tension knobs get in the way.

I decided to modify the setup so that it would be friendly to both left and right handed shooters.

Note: ensure this is the proper height of your cheek riser. You can make adjustments later but it might be a pain.

Here's what you will need:

1x 1 1/2" 1/4x20 carriage bolt (front screw)
1x 1 3/4" 1/4x20 carriage bolt (rear screw)
2x 1/4x20 knock-down bolts
1x 3/16" allen key
1x 23/64" drill bit (check the diameter of your knock-down bolts)
1x 1/4" drill bit
1x drill
Masking tape
1x clamp
1x scrap piece of wood

Step 1
Begin creating the drill bit jig by mounting the 23/64" drill bit in the drill and make a hole through the piece of scrap wood. You want your drill bit to be perfectly perpendicular to the piece of wood. I used my drill press.

Step 2
Wrap a few layers of tape around the 1/4" drill bit. You want enough tape so that it would fit perfectly into the 23/64" hole you drilled into the scrap piece of wood in Step 1.

Step 3
Insert the drill bit into one side of the previous 1/4" holes in the stock, preferably the side the knobs were on just in case you need to revert back the the large tension knobs. Once inserted, clamp down the jig to prevent it from moving around. While the pic shows only a small portion of the 1/4" bit through the stock, after doing this, I realized that I should have inserted the drill bit all the way through the other side before clamping down the jig to ensure that the opposing holes were lined up.

Once the jig is clamped into place, remove the 1/4" guide.

Step 4
Carefully drill out just ONE side of the stock with the 23/64" mounted drill.

Tip: You can mark your drill bit with a piece of masking tape as a guide as it could be difficult to tell once you're through drilling one side and accidentally drill out the other. To do so, before mounting the jig, use a smaller drill bit and insert it into the hole in the stock at a slight angle so that it does not proceed through the hole on the opposing side. You should hit the opposing sidewall of the stock. Measure the insertion distance and mark it off on the 23/64" drill bit.

Step 5
Repeat Step 4 for the other hole.

Step 6
Thread the 1 1/2" carriage bolt through the front hole and match it up with one of the knock-down bolts.

Thread the 1 3/4" carriage bolt through the rear hole and match it up with the remaining knock-down bolt.

You now have a more streamline cheek riser that's comfortable for both right and left handed shooters. No more ugly knobs!

The added bonus of this mod, if this is the ideal cheek riser height, is that your cheek riser will never creep up or down, even if the bolts should become loose over time.

In order to make adjustments later down the road, remove the cheek riser assembly and simply widen the slots on the side with the knock-down bolts using a file, Dremel, knife etc.
