Dlask 8.5 inch 870?

I wouldn't swear to it, but i seem to recall someone saying something like 3, 3.5 lbs? Then add your shells, you can work out the weight there yourself easily.

it's still pretty heavy. 5-6 lbs. I lifted one and decided it's still way to big and heavy to hike with.

I guess it depends. I hike up some pretty nasty stuff with a regular rifle :D

but i can't see how it's 6 lbs - a full sized 18 incher with a pistol grip is only 5.75 lbs, so an 8 inch has got to be less than that by a fair margin i'd guess. That's 10 inches less steel barrel, shorter mag, etc.

"Way too big and heavy to hike with"?????????????????
Just when I think I've heard it all someone comes along and amazes me with a comment like that. If you can't hike with 5 lbs , then it's time to stay home and stuff yer face with bon bons and stay in bed.

303 - there's really no need for insults or the like. If the guy is planning a 30 mile a day hike for 5 days and already has a 60 lb pack, every ounce counts. Companies have made fortunes turning a 12 ounce bit of kit into an 8 ounce version.

15 miles with a day pack over easy terrain however, it shouldn't really be much of a problem. 3 hours in the woods poking around, that's not likely to be an issue either :D

It's all relative.

No insult intended,just and observation.

What is the weight of a BEAR BELL, a CAN OF BEAR SPRAY, a PENCIL FLARE WITH A BEAR BANGER? How effective are they? What is the weight of a DLASK 8.5 inch 870? How effective is it? Life is making choices.

What is the weight of a BEAR BELL, a CAN OF BEAR SPRAY, a PENCIL FLARE WITH A BEAR BANGER?
Depends on the size of the can, but approximately 12- 14 oz. for all three (about a lb or just over).
How effective are they?

Zero, 70%, and maybe about 20% depending, respectively. however - they have issues.
What is the weight of a DLASK 8.5 inch 870?

Apparently around 5 lbs, but i have to think that's high. Maybe 4 - 4.5
How effective is it?

About 70 percent. But it has issues :)

Life is making choices.

Well obviously.

The dlask gun offers more than just predator defense tho of course, it's also an effective survival tool. It can fetch food, and fire bangers and signal flares/screamers that are much more effective than pen-launched systems.

The bear spray (by itself, or maybe with the pen launcher - don't waste time with the bells, if you want to do that get an air horn) is legal in many places that guns are not, and of course is much lighter and often faster to bring into play. It's also handier if an animal already has your buddy in some respects.

There is no 'right choice for all occasions". I'd buy the bear spray AND the shotgun :) i'd use the tools MOST appropriate to the circumstances i was in - both if i could, shotgun if i didn't want to bother with the spray, spray if i was in a no gun area or if i were hiking long distances and every ounce counted.

Know your tools, know their limits, take with you what is appropriate for that trip. That should include firearms in some cases, and the dlask or similar is a pretty damn attractive choice for those cases.
