I posted this in another thread but it's buried after 15 pages . This is valid information , no guessing , key words being , at this time .

O.K. , 10:00 P.M. , June 6th and my gun was just ran through the system . The system is CPIC which is the police/cfc database . It can be ran as a restricted weapon , a non-restricted weapon , under my name , by my PAL , using the FRT , the registration or the serial number or any combination . Mine was ran , by my name , by the make and model , by my registration number , by my serial number and by my PAL . It comes back , registered to me via dealer transfer , non-restricted , barrel less than 470 mm . That is the exact information that any law enforcement officer will find by running these shotguns , by make , model , PAL , name of registered owner or serial number , at this time . They'll get the same information by just running the FRT .

Just found out that the information that i posted above is accurate but incomplete as it came through a couple of people before it got to me . The CFC database reads , barrel less that 470 mm / 457 mm . The person who passed it on to me assumed that since the barrel is less than 470 mm , it must be 457 mm . Not so . I just measured the gun from the back of the pistolgrip to the muzzle and the over all length is exactly 457 mm , but 457 mm isn't specified as the OAL on the database . Anything else you need before i go to bed HeadDamage .:D

The 8.5" SMD12 is a firearm worth having regardless of how it is, or must be, registered.

Even if it were in another class, I would still buy it. The fact that it is non-restricted is just gravy.

Now that is interesting. It's the OAL that would lead some CO or LEO to question the non-restricted status, so the fact that they made an attempt at putting the info there is good, now they just need to make it clear in the description that 457mm is the OAL.

I agree that it would be fun to own, but not being able to use it for more than a range toy defeats the purpose to many buyers. This is the ideal predator defense gun for people in the bush whose lives are not considered worthy of protection by the Lieberals, and are therefore not permitted to carry a suitable handgun in the woods.
