Hole crap!

Very cool, i love the giant muzzle flash pics! :D

Just asking, i've been trying to capture some pics like that with my Digicam (its an older Canon Powershot S400) but cant get the settings right... Do you just get VERY lucky with the timing, or use a long exposure time?

Thanks F22. Try putting your camera on the "AV" mode for "Aperture" priority. This should give you a longer exposure time. You must use a tripod or don't bother trying it as the pics won't turn out at all. Time the shot with the camera's shutter either by self timer or have a friend take the snap. It's a lot of fun. Good luck! Post your results if you get some good pics.

Very cool, i'll see if that works :D (i have a nice tripod i can use)

Thanks!

That is impressive! almost 3 feet of blast :)

My avatar is a pic of muzzle blast from the 12.5" Dlask 870 but it pales compared to the 8.5"
Cheers

like 3" mag foster slugs?

what sortof accuracy were you getting if you dont mind my asking, compared to a more common 18-20" 'tactical' smoothbore shotgun barrel?

2 3/4" Rifled Hollow Point Slugs 1600 FPS by Winchester. Accuracy is poor. We were shooting to 50 meters and the slugs were going about 12" left and about 6" high.

first i was thinking OUCH, but if they were consistently doing that perhaps the front blade/barrel just isnt indexed properly?
is the front blade adjustable at all? can it be drifted over a bit to compensate for the 12" left or is the front sight just a solid block of metal soldered onto the barrel?

6" high @50 yards isnt that bad. with a high velocity slug that should be just about dead on at 100 yards, which is pretty much the max effective range of slugs anyway.

The blade isn't adjustable but it almost certainly isn't the problem.
What I have found shooting the 12.5" 14" and now 8.5" DAC barrels is that the barrels are VERY accurate but je is talking about a discrepency between POA and POI. You have to be aware when shooting a bead site shotgun to always get the same sight picture and to lay that bead down properly on the receiver. I find that I have to pay more attention with the 8.5" barrel especially when that is used on an Express receiver that lacks the receiver sighting machining. A small misalignment - larger miss at 50m.
With more shooting and a bit more attention to the details the POI should come to POA.
BYW: What size groups were you getting at 50m?

Cheers

I haven't spent much time with the gun yet so my shooting reflects that. My paper target was about 18" x 18" and was full of holes. No real groupings per say. I was happy when it would hit the target. It's not designed to be an accurate shotgun with a 8.5" barrel. Sure is a lot of fun though.

They are fun :)
I took a look at my first rapid fire offhand target and I was hititng about 6" left and about 6" high at 25m and that was when I learned I had to be a little more careful with my reference aiming points.
The next target I slowed down a bit and shot a 2" three shot group offhand. I am going to put open sights on mine just because it makes accurate aiming a little easier and faster for me.
Cheers
