I recently picked up a Dlask Mini moose in new, unfired condition on the EE.
Here's how its set up now.
8.5" BBL
Dlask's version of a monolithic upper
DAR701 lower
ACE SOCOM Stock
Noveske KX3 Flash hider
LAR-15 10 rd mags
EOTECH
Cheap ebay BUIS
Tango down grips front and rear
The first thing I noticed about this gun is the weight. For a short little thing, 27" OAL, it feels like it weighs about 8 lbs! It is definately heavier than a standard A2, 20 inch AR. But I have always wanted a shorty like this.
After much drooling and a little tinkering, I took it to the range got the eotech zeroed, and proceeded to shoot some groups. I shot it just like it is in the pics. No, my nose doesnt hit the cocking handle.
My standing groups at 50m were as expected. 2-4 inches, depending on how fast I went with it.
Then I sat down and used the fore grip like a monopod. I shot a 0.5" group of 3 shots! I know its nothing astronomical, but I find it pretty damn satisfying.
I had no stoppages, no problems at all. And the best part is.....
That Noveske is awesome! I had resigned myself to suffering the abuse a short barrel would normally give. Nope, not with this thing. It is as gentle on the ears as a full 20 inch barrel. Even the other guys at the range didnt mind it, as opposed to some of the brakes I have tried on ARs. This is, without a doubt, the best of all the muzzle brakes or flash hiders I have ever tried on an AR. (Although I couldnt tell you what the flash is like at night.)
The only things I intend to change on this are as follows.
-Heavier buffer, to hopefully slow things down and beat up my brass a little less
-Switch to MIAD grip when the come around again. I want a huge, meaty grip with a beavertail and a palm swell if there is such a thing. I think MIAD is the best choice as I dont think it would look right to use the nice target grip with the hand stop.
I cant really complain about anything on this rifle, but there is something wierd about the finish on some of the parts. It almost looks like they are blued. (Just the steel parts that is) And theres nothing wrong with that, its just something I am used to seeing on a different style of gun. When I asked Joe about the finish, he said he uses Mil-Spec finishes on all his stuff. I took it at that as I didnt really care. I was just happy to have this gun. And I think it looks great.
