Moving a Kidd Barrel from a SBI ST22 to a new Dlask receiver.

Put the barrel in the freezer for a couple hours, heated the receiver with a heat gun, greased it up and made ZERO progress.

Leaning towards filing the receiver over the barrel.

Has anybody had a similar situation with a resolution?

Barrell over receiver - good to know.

In his install video Tony Kidd talks about sanding the barrel so maybe it is the better option.

There's also the idea of considering whether it's the receiver or the barrel that would cost more to replace, and then start sanding the other piece.

I got a tight one together once by leaving the barrel outdoors overnight in minus 20-something (right time of year for that!) then the next morning gently warming the receiver with a propane torch. A bit of anti-seize grease might not be amiss either.

I had this same exact issue, but it was an SBI barrel with a Dlask receiver. Luckily I was able to leave it with Mr. Dlask himself and he very carefully sanded down the barrel to fit the receiver. He said that's the proper way, not the opposite. I am not to question the experts.

This first statement is also worth careful consideration. (y)

You modify the barrel because it’s easier. -20c doesn’t do anything. 10/22 receivers, even aftermarket are generally cheaper than quality barrels.

How a hobbyist modify s a receiver in an acceptable way please enlighten us.

I have a Dlask receiver and Dlask barrel and I took it to Dlask. They sanded the barrel to get it to fit. I had that barrel in a Ruger factory receiver and it was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

Yea they're a tough one to fit thats for sure. Lots of heating and hammering eventually got it done. I installed the v-block nice and snug but didn't try to seat the barrel with the v-block. Id heat the receiver up with a blow torch, then with a block of wood and a rag at the back of the receiver, hammered the barrel in. I could see the progress because the v-block needed to be tightened up again. It took repeating that 4 times before the barrel was completely seated all the way.

Just did a Dlask barrel into a Dlask reciever, I did the reciever. I just used a Dremel with the steel wire wheel and went in and out, took off the coating. Had a snug fit after still. Used a little copper coat between the two.

Had this issue with an SBI receiver and a SBI barrel. The SBI barrel fit on my second SBI receiver, but not on my first one. So ultimately with some jumbling between builds, was able to get things fitted without modification.
I contacted SBI with a friendly heads up and never did hear back from them.

What are the measurements?

I think an interference fit is possible with heating but I don't know how much 0.005" might be a bit much

You may want to redo that. Copper and aluminum don't get along well. Try nickle antisieze.

I could I suppose, used it for almost 20 years on ar15 barrels and uppers and haven't had an issue yet, all have come apart nicely. Eventually I'll change it out after reading up on it now. Thanks for the heads up.
